HIstory

While my first love has always been business another lesser-known one to the outside world has been my love of history. History brings back a lot of memories for me. Both of my grandfathers were fans of history. I have fond memories of my dad's mother telling me stories of the twelve labors of Hercules by heart. The other grandfather told me stories of the local area. He told me about the family that I came from and where I could go. Both of these men instilled in me from an early age that history is a roadmap to the pitfalls of the future. As I have gotten older I have seen this play out many times in my life, and the times when I have gotten burned the worse it is when I have not paid enough attention to my own past. I think history is often overlooked. Most people consider it to be old dusty books in a library, but from it, I have learned some of my most valuable lessons. I have collected a lot of books over the years and I have tried to keep up with reading even as my schedul...

The Future

I have been much busier this semester than I anticipated. I have been able to push myself to new levels that I did not think were possible, but I have also found some new lows that I have had to work through. One of the things that I have used to keep me going is the future. When I was a kid I used to look forward to ice cream or seeing my best friend on the weekends now however it is thinking about getting an MBA. I didn't have a good answer for her. After the call that night, I was restless and got a bad night's sleep. It was the only topic that I thought about for the next few weeks. I realized that all I had done was keep moving the goalpost. In my quest to achieve everything I wanted, I saw that I had neglected to give myself any credit for everything that I had done. I have always looked forward to ...

Religious Studies

When I first came to Elon I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do entirely. I knew that I wanted to end up somewhere in business, but I hadn’t thought too far beyond that. I have always been inspired by my parents who both went on to become. However, I knew that was not for me. I have had a tenuous relationship with religion my whole life. I grew up in a very conservative church that my family decided to leave when we got older. I always found the study of religion to be interesting. In my local area though there were a lot of religious zealots, but as it turned out very few of them knew very much about biblical history of context. When I was signing up for classes freshman year I saw an interesting religious studies class. The listing just said Islamic History. That was a topic that I knew very little about. I walked into the class a little nervous as it was so far out of my previously studied topics. I was lucky to have an incredible professor named Dr. Sells. She helped to guide me ...
